Pay: $11.00-$13.20/hr.
Description: Undergraduate Field Data Collection Positions: Dr. Guensler’ s research team in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering is looking for ten undergraduates to perform field data collection and analysis for a national research project funded by the US Department of Transportation. The undergraduate research assistants (URAs) will work under the supervision of a team of researchers and experienced graduate research assistants to collect data for roadway and sidewalk networks. Each data collection session is typically four hours long, but deployment dates and times are flexible. URAs collect video data for machine vision processing using a camera-equipped wheelchair and perform manual ramp inspections. Other common tasks include equipment setup and calibration, waypoint navigation, translation of collected data to network structures, and preparation of field reports. The research team is looking for individuals with an unwavering strong sense of responsibility and commitment who will handle high-cost equipment with care, and will ensure that high quality data are collected. Research assistants will become familiar with complex data structures and there is an opportunity to participate in writing peer-reviewed publications this fall. This is a great opportunity to develop new skills. URAs will be expected to work between 10 to 20 hours per week from August 15 to December 15 (schedules are flexible).
